Gobi 65
Gobi 65

A quick to make deep fried cauliflower dish with curry powder invigorates your palette. Also get your healthy dose of this cruciferous vegetable that helps to balance your hormones and help build immunity against illnesses. 



Cauliflower: 1

Lemon juice: Few drops

Coriander (Cilantro) leaves: 1 teaspoon finely chopped


Batter Ingredients:

Yogurt or Curd: 2 cups

Ginger garlic paste: 2 teaspoon

Corn flour (or all purpose flour): 2 teaspoon

Garam Masala powder: ½ teaspoon

Red chili powder: ¼ teaspoon or as per taste

Black Pepper powder: A pinch

Red Food color (or Jilebi coloring): A pinch

Salt: as per taste




  1. Cut the cauliflower into small sugar cube sized pieces and soak them in warm salted water for a few minutes.
  2. Semi-boil the cauliflower pieces for a few minutes and strain the water. Let it cool for few minutes, then, wrap it with a cloth to remove moisture.
  3. Prepare a mixture of batter ingredients list above with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste etc. and blend it well.
  4. The prepared mixture consistency should be similar to batter, so that it can be coated over the cauliflower. Add little bit of either water if the consistency is too thick or add little bit more of the corn flour to get a thicker consistency.  If corn flour is not available, use all purpose flour.
  5. Add the cauliflower into the batter mixture, stir is and let it rest for ½ hour.
  6. Heat 2 inches of oil in a frying pan and when hot, reduce heat to medium. Then sprinkle few pieces of the cauliflower at a time evenly and deep fry for 2~3 minutes. Remove when it begins to darken and get crispy. Spread it on to a paper napkin or cloth to absorb the extra oil.
  7. Repeat the process until all the cauliflower pieces are deep fried.
  8. Top it with coriander (cilantro) leaves and few drops of lemon juice.




Serving Suggestion:


Enjoy the hot and crispy gobi 65 snack with your late afternoon tea or as an appetizer along with sweet corn soup for dinner.
